In the name of God Amen. I Thomas Russell of Hurste in the parishe of Worplesdon and in the County of Surrey yeoman, beinge weake in body, but of good and perfect Remembrance thanks be given unto Almighty God doe make and declare this my last will and Testament uppon the thirde day of Aprill Anno Domini 1619 and in the Seventeenth yeare of the Reigne Soveraigne Lord James, by the grace of god of England, Ffrance and Ireland Kinge deffender of the ffaith etc and of Scotland the two and fiftieth, in manner and forme followinge,
ffirst and principally I commend my soule into the handes of Almighty God my maker, hopinge assuredly through the only merittes of Jesus Christ my Saviour to be made partaker of everlasting life and my body to be buryed in the Churchyard of Worplesdon aforesaid by the discretion of my Executrixe and overseers undernamed/
Item I give to the parishe Church of Worplesdon five shillinges/
Item I give to the poore of the said parishe of Worplesdon five shillings to be distributed amongst them within one month after my decease/
Item I give twenty shillings to be bestowed at my burial in bread and beere/
Item I will, give and bequeath unto Thomas Russell my eldest sonne the Table in my Hall, with the formes and settles in the same/ And also a Joyned Bedstead, a Joyned presse, and Cupboard and Bedstead, flockbed and all other furniture belonginge to the said Bed which I now lye on, in the Chamber over the hall. And also my Bullen Brasse ffurnace, my biggest brasse pott savinge one, one great Iron spitte my greate dresser Table standing in my Kitchen with all settles and formes in the same/
Item I will give and bequeath unto my said Sonne Thomas Russell Twenty pounds of lawfull money of England, to be paid unto him by my Executrix when he shall accomplishe the age of ffive and Twenty yeares/
Item I will give and devise unto the said Thomas Russell my sonne for his maintenance the Rentes of Seaven Acres of my lease landes, Namely two acres of meadow in Northmead two Acres of Errable land Called Bulles adjoining to Gases, and Three Acres of Errable land be it more or lesse called the Worth when he shall accomplishe the age of one and twenty yeares. And all my lease landes whatsoever, either in mine owne occupation or in the occupation of John Crosse, situate, lyinge, and beinge in the parishe of Worplesdon aforesaid, when the said Thomas Russell my sonne shall accomplishe the age of ffive and twenty yeares. To have and to holde all the said landes with the appurtenances unto the said Thomas Russell his Executors and Assignes from his said age of one and twenty yeares, and from his said age of ffive and twenty yeares duringe the terme of a thousand years * * *
And if the said Thomas Russell shall happen to die before he shall accomplishe his age of XXV yeares I will that the said Twenty pounds and all my lease landes above devised shall remaine and bea unto Peter Russell my other sonne when he shall accomplishe the age of Three and Twenty yeares. To have and to hold unto the said Peter his Executors and Assignes the said landes with the appurtenances from his said age of Three and Twenty yeares During the terme aforesaid/
Item I will, give and bequeath unto the said Peter Russell my sonne ffifty poundes of lawful money of England to bea paid unto the said Peter by my Executrixe when the said Peter shall accomplishe the age of Three and Twenty yeares/
And if the said Peter dye before he shall accomplishe the said age of three and Twenty yeares. Then the said ffifty poundes to remaine unto my said sonne Thomas Russell, at his age aforesaid./
Item I will, give and bequeath unto the said Peter Russell my sonne ffifty poundes of lawful money of England to bea paid unto the said Peter by my Executrixe when the said Peter shall accomplishe the age of Three and Twenty yeares/And if the said Peter dye before he shall accomplishe the said age of three and Twenty yeares. Then the said ffifty poundes to remaine unto my said sonne Thomas Russell, at his age aforesaid./
And if it shall happen that the said Peter and Thomas both to die, and my minde is that the said twenty poundes and ffiftie poundes above severally to be paid and all my said lease landes that shall remaine and bee unto Joane Russell my wife if she be then livinge to Dispose of them, as she shall thinke best/
Item I give and bequeathe unto Richard Bromefield my sonne in lawe and my daughter Agnes his wife and to each of them iis vid a peece
Item I give and bequeath unto Ellen Smallpeace my daughter five shillinges.
Item I give and bequeath unto Thomas Smallpeace her eldest sonne, Thirty shillinges of lawful money of England
Item I give and bequeath unto John Smallpeace her youngest sonne Ten shillinges of good and lawful money of England to be paid unto the said John when he shall accomplishe the age of Seaven yeares by my Executrix/
Item I give unto William Russell my brother five shillinges
Item I give unto Thomas Slifeeldes wife five shillinges
Item I give unto John Lees wife five shillinges/
All the residue of my goodes, Chattelles, household stuffe and ymplementes of household unbequeathed after my debtes paid, my legacies performed and my funerall discharged I give and bequeath unto the said Joane Russell my wife whom I make Executrixe of this my last will and Testament, and I Constitute and appoint my Brother James Russell and William Crosse my neighbour to be Supervisors of the same
And I give to each of them for their paines herein to be taken over and above their reasonable expences bet--ed in their behalfe five shillinges a peece.
And thus O Lord have mercy upon me. In witness whereof to this my present last will and Testament I the said Thomas Russell have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and yeare first above written.
